Happy Earth Day, friends!
I love Earth Day because it reminds everyone that we live on a pretty amazing spinning rock in the middle of space, and we are called to be good stewards of its resources!
In honor of that idea, I wanted to share my favorite sustainable/earth friendly products for my monthly favorites. I've really been convicted this last year to do better when it comes to taking care of the planet. As Christians, I feel that we are called by God to honor this Earth that He's so generously loaned to us! So, here are some of my favorite resources/products that I now swear by.
*Please note: this is not a sponsored post! :)
Misfit Market -- The more I started looking into sustainable practices/good stewardship, the more convinced I was that we should be supporting local farmers, and eating seasonally as God intended. Insert Misfit Market! Here's what they have to say about themselves according to their website: "[We are] a subscription box of sometimes funny-looking, always delicious produce, designed to break the cycle of food waste. Think of us like an online grocery store, except one that specializes in rescuing food that is unnecessarily thrown away. We source high-quality organic produce that has a few quirks—onions that are too small, potatoes that are shaped like your favorite celebrity, and carrots that fell in love and got twisted together. It may sound like a joke, but billions of pounds of this fresh and delicious food is tossed each year because grocery stores only want "perfect" foods on their shelves. We step in and buy this food from hundreds of farms across the country and bring them to your doorstep, saving you money and helping you save the world." Misfit is a great opportunity to eat more organic veggies/fruits, and ethically support farmers. Plus, you get to personalize your books by picking what produce you want based off of what is in season, and available. Hooray for eating more veggies!
Grove Collaborative - I love Grove so much, that I really want to gift subscriptions to family members for Christmas. Part of Grove's mission statement is, "The products that clean our countertops, clothes, and selves shouldn’t spoil the earth or our health" and I feel that they really live up to this ideal. Grove is another personalized subscription box, filled with safe, sustainable household cleansers and products. They are a Certified B Corporation, meaning they've be recognized for the good they do through serving "people, animals, communities, and the planet." They carry cult classic brands like Mrs. Meyers, Method, and Seventh Generation. I totally recommend them for all your spring cleaning needs!
Reusable Shopping bags from Amazon - If you're not using reusable shopping bags: please stop depriving yourself. They are seriously SO MUCH BETTER than their plastic alternative. They can hold more, produce less waste, and don't break!!! It's such a simple switch for a massive problem; Americans use more than 100 billion plastic bags every year. What would happen if just one-quarter of families made the switch to reusable bags? Let's find out together!
Kindle - Look. I used to be hugely anti-Kindle. I love bookstores with my whole, entire heart. I ADORE the smell of books, and the sound of a freshly cracked spine. But even I can't argue with the ecological benefits of eReaders, such as Kindles. There are roughly over 2 million books published every year -- that means 3 million trees are cut down annually. My Kindle helps me reduce my carbon footprint; it can hold hundreds of books, helps reduce paper waste, and can go with me virtually everywhere with ease. It's waterproof, super thin, and easier on the eyes thanks to its backlight feature (which also means I can read in the middle of the night without disrupting my Husband -- hooray!)
If you've found any sustainable/eco-friendly options, drop me a line so I can check them out! Remember that the Earth is the one thing we all have in common.
