One of my favorite worship bands is Housefires, and they have a song from their album Housefires II called "See Your Face." I'm going to share a link to it (obviously) but also post the lyrics here:
I wanna see your face
I wanna know your heart
I wanna walk with you
Everyday of my life God
That's it. That's the whole song.
This stanza, over and over again.
A prayer set to melody, a plea to the most High King: I want to see Your face, I want to know Your heart. I want to walk with You every day of my life, God.
I think King David would love this song, in all of its simplicity and repetition. So many times in the book of Psalms, we see David crying out to God, yearning to know Him intimately and deeply.
"With my whole heart, I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!" (119:10, ESV)
"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water." (63:1, ESV)
"I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
and your wonderful miracles." (145:5, NLT)

During this season of advent and reflection, of preparing and re-centering and grounding, I am striving to be like David. I WANT to want to know Jesus more deeply. I want my heart to break over the things that break His. I want to see His face, and feel Him walking beside me as I go about the mundane activities of my every day, from wiping down countertops to writing lessons at my desk.
I want to meditate on His goodness and the steadfastness of His love in the morning rather than reaching for my phone to check the news. I want to long for Him and know attempt to know Him better.
This year has served as a mighty big distraction from getting to know Jesus and strengthening our love for Him. But I'm ready to have this song become the refrain of my heart. I'm ready to start focusing on what it means to love Jesus well, since He's never stopped loving me.
What about you?
